Un gen de copia \u00fanica localizado en los cromosomas vi y xii, de 1659 pb y con un uso de codones que se desvia del promedio calculado para la especie. Se purific\u00f3 parte de la regi\u00f3n aminoterminal de tcpor, frente a la cual se obtuvieron anticuerpos en conejo. Estos anticuerpos inhibieron la actividad l\u00edtica que poseen los sobrenadantes de t. Cruzi condicionados a ph \u00e1cido, y su presencia en el medio de infecci\u00f3n origina una disminuci\u00f3n en la producci\u00f3n de tripomastigotes al final del proceso. Mutantes nulos para el gen por son incapaces de completar el proceso de infecci\u00f3n y presentan una actividad l\u00edtica disminuida respecto a los par\u00e1sitos de la cepa salvaje. Los par\u00e1sitos de la cepa salvaje son capaces de entrar en la c\u00e9lula presentando un porcentaje de infecci\u00f3n similar a los par\u00e1sitos de la cepa salvaje, pero una vez dentro de la c\u00e9lula los par\u00e1sitos son incapaces de multiplicarse. Levaduras transformadas con el gen por presentan actividad l\u00edtica sobre eritrocitos de conejo a ph 5.5.  por tanto, tcpor est\u00e1 implicada en el proceso de infecci\u00f3n de t.
