En el momento en que la demanda supera la oferta y no se cuenta con los recursos naturales suficientes, se tiende al uso de recursos no convencionales, como es el agua residual depurada.  los tratamientos convencionales de depuraci\u00f3n no logran disminuir el n\u00famero de microorganismos pat\u00f3genos, por lo que el riesgo sanitario sigue siendo considerable. Con el fin de reutilizar esta agua con o sin restricciones sanitarias se tiende al uso de tratamientos terciarios, dentro de este contexto se incluye la infiltraci\u00f3n-percolaci\u00f3n modificada, defini\u00e9ndolo como un proceso de depuraci\u00f3n aerobio de aguas residuales depuradas o efluentes secundarios a raz\u00f3n de algunos centenares de libros por metro cuadrado y por d\u00eda, a trav\u00e9s de un espesor de arena aportado. El proceso de infiltraci\u00f3n-percolaci\u00f3n modificado (ipm), se incluye dentro de los procesos de pel\u00edcula microbina, se trata de un filtro secuencial, no sumergido con soportes de biomasa fijo.  se ha trabajado en columnas de pvc en el laboratorio, y con filtros a escala real. Tanto columnas como filtros se regaron con agua procedentes de un efluente secundario de lodos activados, aplicando distintas cargas hidr\u00e1ulicas. Las columnas y los filtros se han mostrado muy efectivos como sistemas de tratamiento terciario, obteniendose a la salida, disminuci\u00f3n de 3 a 4 unidades logar\u00edtmicas en coliformes fecales y
