Oxysporum f. Sp. Lycopersici es un hongo filamentoso que causa enfermedad vascular en plantas de tomate. Para penetrar en el interior de la planta, el hongo debe degradar las paredes celulares vegetales uno de cuyos componentes fundamentales es el xilano degrado por la acci\u00f3n de las xilanasas. Se ha purificado y caracterizado una xilanasa de f. Oxysporum f. Sp. Lycopersici, xyl1, cuyas caracter\u00edsticas son similares a las de otras xilanasas f\u00fangicas de la familia f. Asimismo, se ha aislado y caracterizado dos genes xilanasa, xy12 y xy13, ambos pertenecientes a la familia f de xilanasas. Los dos genes se expresan en presencia de xilano o de tejido vascular de tomate como \u00fanica fuente de carbono. La expresi\u00f3n de xy12 en planta se detect\u00f3 en los \u00faltimos estad\u00edos de la enfermedad coincidiendo con la muerte de la planta. En cambio xy13, se expres\u00f3 durante todo el ciclo de la enfermedad, desde la penetraci\u00f3n por las raices hasta la muerte de la planta. La transformaci\u00f3n de la estirpe 45-87 de este hongo con un vector portador del gen xy13 interrumpido por el gen marcador de resistencia a higromicina result\u00f3 en la integraci\u00f3n ect\u00f3pica de dicho vector en la regi\u00f3n adyacente al gen xy13.
