En la presente tesis doctoral intentamos aproximarnos al conocimiento de la funci\u00f3n biol\u00f3gica de la prot. Para ello, transfectamos c\u00e9lulas hl-60, una l\u00ednea celular humana leuc\u00e9mica mieloide, con vectores que expresan el rna con sentido y antisentido de la prot. Nuestros resultados indican que la sobreexpresi\u00f3n de la prot provoca una importante inhibici\u00f3n del proceso de diferenciaci\u00f3n en las c\u00e9lulas hl-60. Adem\u00e1s, la sobreexpresi\u00f3n de la prot provoca un incremento en la tasa de proliferaci\u00f3n y en la tasa de s\u00edntesis de dna, mientras que la inhibici\u00f3n de la expresi\u00f3n de la prot provoca el efecto opuesto. El an\u00e1lisis de las fases del ciclo celular revel\u00f3 que la sobreexpresi\u00f3n de la prot causa un acortamiento en la duraci\u00f3n de la fase g1. Por otra parte, el tratamiento de las c\u00e9lulas hl-60 no transfectadas con  oligonucle\u00f3tidos antisentido de la prot induce en ellas un mecanismo de muerte celular mediante apoptosis. finalmente, analizamos el efecto de la prot sobre la estructura de la cromatina. Encontramos que en las c\u00e9lulas que sobreexpresan prot, la accesibilidad de la nucleasa micrococal a la cromatina est\u00e1 fuertemente incrementada. En la escalera de dna generada mediante la actividad de la nucleasa, el tama\u00f1o del mononucleosoma (146 pb, el fragmento de dna unido al oct\u00e1mero de histonas) y sus mult\u00edmeros corresponden al de los nucleosomas sin histona h1. El porcentaje de cromatina depleccionada en h1 es superior en las c\u00e9lulas que sobreexpresan prot. Bas\u00e1ndonos en estos resultados, proponemos una funci\u00f3n biol\u00f3gica para la prot en la remodelaci\u00f3n de las fibras de cromatina a trav\u00e9s de su interacci\u00f3n con la histona
