Se ha enfocado primero al an\u00e1lisis del efecto de la compactaci\u00f3n del suelo sobre el cultivo del algod\u00f3n y a la formulaci\u00f3n de un modelo simple de crecimiento de ra\u00edces y segundo al desarrollo de un modelo de balance de agua y de potencial h\u00eddrico foliar para el cultivo de algod\u00f3n. Se observ\u00f3 en experimentos de campo que la compactaci\u00f3n caus\u00f3 reducciones en acumulaci\u00f3n de biomasa a\u00e9rea, longitud total de ra\u00edces, \u00edndice de \u00e1rea foliar m\u00e1ximo, evapotranspiraci\u00f3n y rendimiento, a pesar de que el potencial h\u00eddrico en hoja apenas var\u00edo en tratamientos. El modelo de crecimiento radicular formulado considera la profundizaci\u00f3n de las ra\u00edces en funci\u00f3n del tiempo t\u00e9rmico y factores de estr\u00e9s mec\u00e1nico e h\u00eddrico. este modelo simul\u00f3 correctamiente la resistencia a la penetraci\u00f3n y la distribuci\u00f3n espacial y temporal del sistema radicular.  el modelo balance de agua consisti\u00f3 en un balance por horizontes conectados cascada y el modelo del potencial h\u00eddrico fue basado en la analog\u00eda de la ley de ohm.
