Chrysogenum exige la adici\u00f3n en exceso de \u00e1cido fenilac\u00e9tico al medio de cultivo, a fin de favorecer su bios\u00edntesis sobre otros tipos de penicilinas. Sin embargo, una parte de este precursor es oxidado por el hongo, lo que encarece los costes de producci\u00f3n.  durante este trabajo se ha identificado el gen paha responsable del primer paso enzim\u00e1tico en la degradaci\u00f3n de \u00e1cido fenilac\u00e9tico en diferentes cepas de p. Chrysogenum. dicho gen est\u00e1 en monocopia y su expresi\u00f3n se induce en presencia de \u00e1cido fenilac\u00e9tico y aceite en el medio. asimismo, se ha comprobado que el gen paha sufre una mutaci\u00f3n en p. Chrysogenum, la cual provoca una p\u00e9rdida de la capacidad oxidativa de \u00e1cido fenilac\u00e9tico y por ello un aumento en la producci\u00f3n de penicilina g. La expresi\u00f3n del gen hom\u00f3logo phaca (a. Nidulans) \u00f3 paha (f. Notatum) en p.
