La presente tesis doctoral est\u00e1 estructurada en dos partes. La primera se basa en el estudio de los mecanismos de captura de hierro no dependientes de sider\u00f3foros en k. Pneumoniae. la segunda se basa en la b\u00fasqueda de una vacuna efectiva contra las infecciones provocadas por k. Pneumoniae. Se describe un nuevo mecanismo, no descrito en k. Pneumoniae de captura de hierro por interacci\u00f3n directa entre las ferriglicoprote\u00ednas: transferrina y lactoferrina, y el compuesto del grupo hemo: hemoglobina, con los receptores espec\u00edficos de la membrana externa iuta y fepa.  iuta es tambi\u00e9n receptor para el sider\u00f3foro de aerobactina de codificaci\u00f3n plasm\u00eddica y presente en las cepas m\u00e1s virulentas.  fepa es tambi\u00e9n receptor para el sidercofor de enterobactina, de codificaci\u00f3n cromos\u00f3mica y presente en todas las enterobacteriaceae.  se presenta tambi\u00e9n el estudio de la efectividad de diferentes vacunas bacterianas inactivadas, utilizando una mezcla de los distintos ant\u00edgenos o del lipopolisac\u00e1rido, proteinas de la membrana externa, prote\u00ednas de elevado peso molecular de la membrana externa de k. Pneumoniae, y prote\u00edna iuta purificada de k. Pneumoniae 52145; como agentes inmun\u00f3genos.  finalmente se ha encontrado una vacuna efectiva basada en la expresi\u00f3n del gen iuta de e. Coli.
