Se ha demostrado que el principio de reduccion dimensional, el cual debe cumplir los funcionales exactos, es una rextriccion sumamente fuerte que permite el adecuado estudio de sistemas con inhomogeneidades extremas (incluyendo el solido).  otro de los resultados principales ha sido la explicacion del fenomeno de las inusuales transiciones de \u00abthinning\u00bb en las peliculas delgadas de esmectico suspendidas en vapor. Para que se induzca orden la interfase el termino que normalmente estabiliza el esmectico de volumen debe de tener una dependencia radial de alcance mayor que el termino isotropo que induce la separacion vapor-liquido.  se incluyen apendices con el metodo del gradiente conjugado y las funciones de correlacion del modelo de orientaciones restringidas.  tambien se aporta una extensa lista de
