Dichos programas son utilizados para caracterizar el comportamiento de los metodos de riego por superficie y estudiar la sensibilidad de su resultado en funcion de las variables de proyecto y operacion. En base a ensayos de campo, se realizan estudios concretos, entre los que destacan los relacionados con: el perimetro mojado para evaluar la infiltracion, con las irregularidades en la pendiente longitudinal, con las diferencias del gasto entrante en los distintos surcos y con las diferencias de desniveles. La variabilidad del fenomeno real, no considerada, es introducida en el resultado final del riego por medio del coeficiente de variacion de una distribucion normal. Finalmente, el concepto de la semejanza hidraulica es utilizado con el objeto de generalizar los resultados y establecer las escalas de paso para utilizar bien ensayos bien simulaciones ya
