En esta tesis se ha estudiado el papel de la ra\u00edz en la regulaci\u00f3n del flujo h\u00eddrico en la planta. Para ello se han utilizado ra\u00edces aisladas de girasol, de manera que el movimiento de agua se produce por un mecanismo osm\u00f3tico. Se ha comprobado que en estas condiciones la mayor\u00eda del agua atraviesa la ra\u00faz por el caminodel simplasto. La aplicaci\u00f3n de \u00e1cido absc\u00edsico (aba) a la ra\u00edz, aument\u00f3 su conductividad hidr\u00e1ulica, siendoeste efecto dependiente del contenido de k y de ca en la ra\u00edz. En ra\u00edces ayunadas en k el efecto promotor del aba fue mayor, mientras que en las ayunadas en ca ocurri\u00f3 lo contrario. Otros resultados muestran evidencias de la presencia de canales de agua (acuaporinas) en las membranas de ls c\u00e9lulas de la ra\u00edz. En experimentos con plantas intactas a las que se a\u00f1adi\u00f3 na y se sometieron a diferentes humedades relativas del aire se encontr\u00f3 que a mayor transpiraci\u00f3n se produjo mayor acumulaci\u00f3n de na en el simplasto de la ra\u00edz. Los resultados obtenidos llevan a la hip\u00f3tesis de que los mecanismos de regulaci\u00f3n en la ra\u00edz son similares a los de la hoja, donde tambi\u00e9n act\u00faa el aba en interacci\u00f3n con k y ca. Los mecanismos de regulaci\u00f3n tnto en hojas como en ra\u00edz actuar\u00edan tratanto de mantener un estado de hidrataci\u00f3n adecuado de la planta en condiciones de estr\u00e9s
