Los explantes mantienen su viabilidad funcional durante toda la duraci\u00f3n del experimento, y la secreci\u00f3n alcanza niveles suficientes para su adecuada determinaci\u00f3n. El sistema permite procesar numerosas muestras en paralelo, y no presenta los problemas asociados con los cultivos primarios de adipocitos aislados.  la secreci\u00f3n espont\u00e1nea de leptina por el tejido adiposo omental humano es mayor en el tejido procedente de mujeres que en el obtenido a partir de donantes varones.  la dexametasona estimula la secreci\u00f3n de leptina in vitro en muestras de tejido adiposo procedentes de donantes de sexo femenino, pero no en aquellas procedentes de donantes varones.  la activaci\u00f3n de la prote\u00edn quinasa c mediante el uso de \u00e9steres del forbol provoca la inhibici\u00f3n de la secreci\u00f3n de leptina in vitro.  las bajas temperaturas producen un efecto inhibitorio directo sobre la secreci\u00f3n de leptina por el tejido adiposo omental humano, sin afectar a la expresi\u00f3n de su mrna.  la incubaci\u00f3n de tejido adiposo humano en presencia de estradiol produce un aumento en la secreci\u00f3n de leptina en las muestras procedentes de mujeres, sin afectar a aquellas que provienen de donantes de sexo masculino.  los andr\u00f3genos, a excepci\u00f3n de la testosterona, producen un descenso de la secreci\u00f3n de leptina in vitro en tejido adiposo procedente de mujeres sin afectar al proveniente de varones. este descenso es especialmente acusado en el caso de los andr\u00f3genos adrenales dhea-s y androstenediona.  dada la falta de acci\u00f3n de las hormonas esteroideas sobre tejido adiposo de varones, este dimorfismo sexual parece depender m\u00e1s del efecto estimulatorio de los
