En este trabajo se ha estudiado la posibilidad de reemplazar los materiales existentes, basados en polimeros organicos, por matrices de silice. Se ha ensayado una gran variedad de composiciones y condiciones de fabricacion; las muestras obtenidas se han sometido a un proceso de caracterizacion tanto a nivel microscopico como de prestaciones electroopticas (tiempos de respuesta, contraste, angulo de vision, etc.) Dichos dispositivos pueden encontrar su aplicacion en el campo de obturadores opticos, valvulas de luz o filtros dicroicos.  los resultados mas relevantes del trabajo se resumen en la obtencion de muestras con contraste superior a 30:1, y tiempos de conmutacion inferiores al milisegundo.  el trabajo se completa con la preparacion de un modelo de dispersion de luz cuyas predicciones se han empleado en la optimizacion del material y el proceso. Finalmente, se han comparado los resultados teoricos y experimentales obteniendo una concordancia satisfactoria.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Datos acad\u00e9micos de la tesis doctoral
