La primera parte consiste en un estudio del origen etimol\u00f3gico de \u00abeclecticismo\u00bb, sus definiciones y conceptos en distintas materias, en el arte y en la pintura; su relaci\u00f3n con el concepto de estilo art\u00edstico; las razones por las que el eclecticismo fue recibiendo, a trav\u00e9s de la historia, una connotaci\u00f3n peyorativa; y las diferencias entre eclecticismo, pluralismo e historicismo. En esta parte son establecidos los principales per\u00edodos ecl\u00e9cticos que son los t\u00edtulos de las partes siguientes.  las partes siguientes consisten en estudios de la historia y las caracter\u00edsticas de los per\u00edodos; de las causas del eclecticismo; de la pintura ecl\u00e9ctica en que son analizados los distintos or\u00edgenes de los estilos mezclados; y una comparaci\u00f3n de la pintura con otras manifestaciones culturales de cada per\u00edodo.  finalmente, son comparados los tres per\u00edodos entre s\u00ed, y se concluye, principalmente, que: aunque existan causas distintas y particulares del eclecticismo en cada per\u00edodo, la mayor\u00eda de ellas son semejantes;
