Cuando el sdra va asociado a sepsis, la mortalidad puede ser de un 80%. La inhibici\u00f3n de la s\u00edntesis de surfactante por citoquinas parece participar en la patog\u00e9nesis del sdra, sin embargo, los mecanismos por los que las citoquinas ejercen sus efectos no son del todo conocidos. es aceptado que el aumento de los niveles de gmpc secundarios a la formaci\u00f3n de no participan en la mediaci\u00f3n de los efectos de las citoquinas sobre neumocitos tipo ii, sin embargo la inhibici\u00f3n de la no sintasa s\u00f3lo revierte en parte los efectos de las citoquinas.
