La macroalga verde ulva rigida se tom\u00f3 como modelo de estudio, que tambi\u00e9n incluy\u00f3 a la macroalaga roja porphyra leucosticta, la unicelular verde dunaliella viridis, la diatomea marina phaeodactylum tricornutum y la cianobacteria spirulina platensis. El incremento de co2 produjo en general una disminuci\u00f3n en los niveles pigmentarios relacionada con un menor tama\u00f1o de las antenas fotosint\u00e9ticas. la actividad nitrato reductasa tambi\u00e9n fue estimulada sugiriendo un efecto de regulaci\u00f3n directa del co2 sin relaci\u00f3n con componentes de c internos ni con el patr\u00f3n de crecimiento.  en u. Rigida, a concentraciones atmosf\u00e9ricas de co2, lo que limita el crecimiento es su propia capacidad de asimilar nitrato, incluso cuando \u00e9ste est\u00e1 en exceso en el medio de cultivo. Al aumentar los niveles de co2, la asimilaci\u00f3n de nitrato aumenta y la liberaci\u00f3n de carbono y la respiraci\u00f3n disminuyen, permitiendo una estimulaci\u00f3n de la tasa de crecimiento.  s\u00f3lo en d. Viridis y p.
