Su brevedad intensa ha permitido al autor indagar mejor la profundidad de su contenido y la brillantez de su exposici\u00f3n. Con el estudio del contexto hist\u00f3rico e ideol\u00f3gico se consigue su marco. Era una obra cristiana y las fuentes hab\u00edan de ser cristianas. El trabajo se divide en dos apartados: 1) fuentes b\u00edblicas, 2) fuentes patr\u00edsticas.  se subdividen las primeras en dos clases de citas: a) citas expl\u00edcitas, que son el argumento de autoridad o apoyo de las ideas del autor, y b) citas impl\u00edcitas, que son el esqueleto de toda la homil\u00eda. Dentro de las fuentes patr\u00edsticas es destacable la figura de agust\u00edn de hipona. El rico caudal de su pensamiento posee como veh\u00edculo la lengua del lat\u00edn cristiano con todas su peculiaridades: el l\u00e9xico, la sem\u00e1ntica, el orden de palabras, las figuras ret\u00f3ricas son recursos que el autor utiliza bien como medio did\u00e1ctico. Una relectura de las actas del concilio y de la propia homil\u00eda evidencia que la llegada a la unidad no fue tan c\u00f3moda como su lectura superficial aparenta. Como su finalidad era \u00abatraer\u00bb y \u00abcambiar\u00bb las mentes de sus oyentes hacia sus planteamientos, la adorna con los diversos recursos que la ret\u00f3rica le ofrece: el ritmo (cuantitativo, acentual, b\u00edblico, sil\u00e1bico) y la rima, tan socorrida en la \u00e9poca visig\u00f3tica, son dos medios (para cuya explicaci\u00f3n el doctorando ha recurrido s\u00f3lo
