El an\u00e1lisis de dichos genes permiti\u00f3 comprobar que, mientras lpnc es de origen cromos\u00f3mico, lpnp es un gen plasm\u00eddico.  ambos genes se han secuenciado, realiz\u00e1ndose posteriormente estudios estructurales, incluyendo mapeo del sitio de inicio de la transcripci\u00f3n y ensayo de su producci\u00f3n in vivo. Tambi\u00e9n se han realizado estudios funcionales tanto en e. Coli como en la cepa productora.  se obtuvo mediante curaci\u00f3n una cepa derivada de l.
