Anomala est\u00e1n presentes tres grupos de genes implicados en la asimilaci\u00f3n de nitrato. En conjunto, los tres grupos contienen tres genes que codifican nitrato reductasa, dos que codifican nitrito reductasa y tres que codifican ciclinas. los tres grupos de genes poseen una alta similitud entre s\u00ed, tanto en la secuencia de nucle\u00f3tidos, como en los polip\u00e9ptidos codificados en cada gen.  el nitrato estimula la transcripci\u00f3n de los genes que codifican la nr y la nir. Sin embargo, en ausencia de nitr\u00f3geno se encuentran un = 30% de los niveles de arnm alcanzados en nitrato. La actividad y la prote\u00edna nitrato reductasa y nitrito reductasa se detectan s\u00f3lo en medios en los que est\u00e1 presente el nitrato.
