Carmen Desco Esteban <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>La diabetes lleva asociado un estr\u00e9s eoxidativo, considerado un factor etiol\u00f3gico importante en el desarrollo de las complicaciones cr\u00f3nicas de los diab\u00e9ticos. Los principales agentes prooxidantes son los radicales libres derivados de ox\u00edgeno. A nivel biol\u00f3gico, estas especies se producen fundamentalmente en la mitocondria y en la reacci\u00f3n catalizada por la xantina oxidasa. Estas v\u00edas de generaci\u00f3n de radicales libres no han sido estudiadas en profundidad en la diabetes y nuestro objetivo principal ser\u00e1 abordarlas. Hemos utilizado ratas wistar de 3 meses diabetizadas con estreptozotocina y seres humanos diab\u00e9ticos tipo i. La diabetes lleva asociado un estr\u00e9s oxidativo evidenciado por una oxidaci\u00f3n del glutati\u00f3n en sangre y por un aumento de la lipoperoxidaci\u00f3n en plasma tanto en ratas diabetizadas como en pacientes diab\u00e9ticos tipo i. Las mitocondrias no est\u00e1n implicadas en la generaci\u00f3n de radicales libres en la diabetes experimental, ya que no existe un aumento de la producci\u00f3n de per\u00f3xidos en mitocondrias aisladas de varios tejidos. en ratas diabetizadas se produce un aumento de la actividad xantina oxidasa en plasma y en h\u00edgado. Adem\u00e1s se produce un aumento de producci\u00f3n de super\u00f3xido en anillos a\u00f3rticos de ratas diab\u00e9ticas.
