Estudios morfol\u00f3gicos recientes han demostrado la presencia de reclutamiento alveolar cuando se somete al pulm\u00f3n a elevadas presiones transpulmonares. Sin embargo, estos estudios se han realizado en pulmones de animales adultos y desconocemos si el pulm\u00f3n senil se comporta de la misma forma. El objetivo de este trabajo ha sido demostrar si existe reclutamiento alveolar en el pulm\u00f3n del viejo cuando se le somete a presiones transpulmonares altas.  se han utilizado 40 ratas fischer de 18 meses de edad que se dividieron en grupos de 10 animales. Sus pulmones se fijaron con formaldeh\u00eddo al 10% por v\u00eda intratraqueal a cuatro presiones diferentes (20, 25, 30 y 35 cm de h20), y posteriormente se procesaron para microscop\u00eda de luz y se estudiaron morfometricamente teniendo en cuenta variables que describ\u00edan el n\u00famero y tama\u00f1o alveolar, la cantidad de tejido y variables que cuantificaban elastina.  tras analizar estad\u00edsticamente los resultados, \u00e9stos mostraron que el incremento de la presi\u00f3n transpulmonar no hab\u00eda producido cambios sensibles ni en el n\u00famero de alv\u00e9olos, ni en su tama\u00f1o, ni en la cantidad de tejido, demostrando que no hay reclutamiento alveolar en el pulm\u00f3n senil de la rata si le somete a presiones transpulmonares por encima de 20 cm de
