Sus principales propiedades son una elevada resistencia a flexi\u00f3n y al choque t\u00e9rmico en un amplio rango de temperaturas que abarca desde temperatura ambiente hasta 1600 grados c. Sin embargo, el principal problema es la elevada velocidad de oxidaci\u00f3n de la fibra de carbono. esta tesis es el fruto de la participaci\u00f3n del instituto de cer\u00e1mica y vidrio (csic) en el proyecto europeo brite \u00abintegrated oxidation protection of ceramic matrix composites\u00bb. la memoria se centra por un lado en la infiltraci\u00f3n del sustrato con soluciones sol-gel precursoras de s\u00edlice mediante inmersi\u00f3n y bajo presi\u00f3n isost\u00e1tica. Por otro lado se han preparado recubrimientos de vidrio de s\u00edlice y silicoborato mediante la t\u00e9cnica de inmersi\u00f3n en soluciones sol-gel. Finalmente, se han preparado recubrimientos de silicatos de itrio empleando alternativamente la t\u00e9cnica sol-gel y la v\u00eda cer\u00e1mica a partir de suspensiones coloidales. La combinaci\u00f3n de infiltraci\u00f3n y multicapas ha permitido alcanzar los objetivos del proyecto m\u00e1s de 5000 horas a 1200 c y m\u00e1s de 100 horas a 1600 c con una p\u00e9rdida m\u00e1xima
