Como punto de partida cont\u00e1bamos con algunos trabajos monogr\u00e1ficos dedicados a los principales autores y piezas. Pero el n\u00famero y variedad de las obras conservadas hac\u00edan prever que la consulta de las fuentes documentales podr\u00eda descubrirnos datos interesantes acerca de sus autores y contexto socio-cultural. el resultado ha sido la localizaci\u00f3n de numerosos art\u00edfices desconocidos, nuevas obras y otras informaciones relacionadas con la vida y proceso creador.  durante los siglos de la edad moderna c\u00e1diz protagoniza un singular proceso de crecimiento, generador de actividades art\u00edsticas que encuentran en el retablo una de sus manifestaciones m\u00e1s representativas. Diversas circunstancias condicionaron el destino particular de este n\u00facleo mercantil foco de atracci\u00f3n para muchos comerciantes y art\u00edfices cuyo resultado es la plasmaci\u00f3n local, concreta individualizada, de un proceso amplio en la cultura occidental coincidentes con el auge de la contrarreforma.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Datos acad\u00e9micos de la tesis doctoral
