Para analizar los mecanismos mediante los cuales esta prote\u00edna realiza sus funciones se han construido una serie de mutantes de la prote\u00edna con los que se han podido mapear dominios funcionales de ns1. Adem\u00e1s, se han identificado prote\u00ednas y rnas virales que se asocian a ns1 durante la infecci\u00f3n con el virus de la gripe. Por otra parte, se ha clonado y caracterizado una nueva prote\u00edna humana por su capacidad de interacionar con la prote\u00edna ns1 en su ensayo de doble h\u00edbrido. La nueva prote\u00edna humana es el hom\u00f3logo humano de la prote\u00edna staufen de drosophila melanogaster, por lo que se ha denominado hstaufen o staufen humano. Hstaufen es una prote\u00edna capaz de unir rna de doble banda, se localiza principalmente en el ret\u00edculo rugoso de las c\u00e9lulas humanas y se encuentra asociada a los polisomas.
