Dicha prote\u00edna se caracteriza por hallarse presente en c\u00e9lulas polarizadas y por ser capaz de incorporarse a unos microdominios espec\u00edficos de la membrana enriquecidos en glicoesfingol\u00edpidos y colesterol previamente implicados en los procesos de transporte apical. tanto la incorporaci\u00f3n a dichos microdominios como la localizaci\u00f3n intracelular de la prote\u00edna se halla severamente regulada por m\u00faltiples se\u00f1ales de distribuci\u00f3n o \u00absorting\u00bb localizadas en el extremo carboxilo terminal. Adem\u00e1s, se ha demostrado que mal es una prote\u00edna itinerante que cicla continuamente entre la membrana plasm\u00e1tica y el tgn. La sobreexpresi\u00f3n de mal en c\u00e9lulas de insecto mediante la infecci\u00f3n con baculovirus recombinantes indujo la formaci\u00f3n de una enorme cantidad de ves\u00edculas, sugiriendo una implicaci\u00f3n de mal en los procesos de vesiculaci\u00f3n. Finalmente, la depleci\u00f3n de la prote\u00edna mal end\u00f3gena en c\u00e9lulas mdck mediante la transfecci\u00f3n con oligonucle\u00f3tidos antisentido, afect\u00f3 claramente al transporte de la prote\u00edna hemaglutinina del virus influenza, tanto en su velocidad de llegada a membrana plasm\u00e1tica como en su transporte a la membrana apical.  en suma, los resultados sugieren que mal es un componente de la maquinaria de transporte posiblemente implicada en la vesiculaci\u00f3n de los microdominios ricos en glicoesfingol\u00edpidos y en la captaci\u00f3n de prote\u00ednas para su
