Las mutaciones ebs (early bolting in short days) y esd1 (eartly in short days 1) se han localizado en los cromosomas 4 y 3, respectivamente. Mediante an\u00e1lisis de dobles mutantes se han determinado las interacciones gen\u00e9ticas de estos dos genes durante la transici\u00f3n floral. La funci\u00f3n de esd1 se requiere a lo largo de todo el desarrollo de la planta y podr\u00eda participar en la adquisici\u00f3n de competencia para florecer. Adem\u00e1s, el locus esd1 participa en la ruta de regulaci\u00f3n de la floraci\u00f3n mediada por fitocromo b.  el locus ebs participa en diferentes procesos de desarrollo de la planta, desde la germinaci\u00f3n al desarrollo de las flores. ebs reprime el desarrollo reproductivo y el efecto represor de \u00e9ste gen podr\u00eda llevarse a cabo mediante la regulaci\u00f3n o interacci\u00f3n con los productos de los genes ft y fwa. Adem\u00e1s, la expresi\u00f3n de los genes home\u00f3ticos apetala3 y agamous est\u00e1 reprimida localmente por el producto g\u00e9nico de ebs. El efecto represor de \u00e9ste gen podr\u00eda realizarse indirectamente a trav\u00e9s de la actividad de los genes ft y fwa.  por \u00faltimo, mediante clonaje posicional se ha identificado un
