Solani est\u00e1 limitado actualmente por la falta de conocimientos sobre su gen\u00e9tica. Para clarificar los mecanismos de incompatibilidad gen\u00e9tica, se han estudiado simult\u00e1neamente la compatibilidad sexual y la vegetativa para aislados del grupo de anastomosis (ag) 1, y se han demostrado que son dos mecanismos distintos que operan de manera independiente.  tambi\u00e9n se ha estudiado la fructificaci\u00f3n de aislados homocariontes y heterocariontes y el comportamiento nuclear de dichos aislados durante la fructificaci\u00f3n. Se ha visto que, aunque la fructificaci\u00f3n homocarionte tiene lugar por meioisis, no por mitosis y libera esporas que presentan una elevada tasa de germinaci\u00f3n, t. Cucumeris ag 1 debe considerarse una especie heterot\u00e1lica.  por \u00faltimo, se ha puesto a punto para t. Cucumeris ag 1 una t\u00e9cnica de obtenci\u00f3n de marcadores moleculares, denominada aflp (polimorfismo en longitud de fragmentos amplificados), con la que se generaron marcadores que segregaban entre la progenie del parental y que demostraron que el micelio a\u00e9reo formado al aparear homocariontes de distinto tipo sexual era un verdadero heterocarionte reconstitu\u00eddo, y no solo una mezcla de hifas homocariontes.  tam\u00eden se generaron marcadores relacionados con el tipo sexual, que se utilizar\u00e1n para futuros estudios destinados a profundizar en el conocimiento de los genes de tipo sexual de t.
