Estas prote\u00ednas se localizan en la membrana plasm\u00e1tica, donde el colesterol juega un papel muy importante regulando la funci\u00f3n de algunas prote\u00ednas.  este trabajo muestra que la falta de colesterol celular provoca una disminuci\u00f3n de la actividad gtpasa de prote\u00ednas que ligan gtp, a trav\u00e9s de la disminuci\u00f3n en su capacidad hidrol\u00edtica, ya que no se modifica ni la uni\u00f3n, ni el intercambio de nucle\u00f3tidos de guanina, favoreciendo un aumento de la cantidad de estas prote\u00ednas en su forma unida a gtp, y por tanto activas. As\u00ed, se puede concluir que el colesterol en condiciones fisiol\u00f3gicas act\u00faa como un estimulador de la actividad gtpasa de estas prote\u00ednas, regulando de este modo los procesos de tranducci\u00f3n de se\u00f1ales en los que est\u00e1n implicadas. Este efecto regulador es poco probable que se ejerza a trav\u00e9s de cambios en las caracteristicas de la membrana, ya que el efecto del colesterol es el mismo en membrana plasm\u00e1tica y en
