El m\u00e9todo de construcci\u00f3n de estos competidores est\u00e1 basado en el empleo de oligonucle\u00f3tidos que contienen una regi\u00f3n formada por nucle\u00f3tidos dispuestos al azar junto con otra regi\u00f3n constituida por secuencias espec\u00edficas capaces de dirigir la amplificaci\u00f3n de un conjunto de fragmentos de dna de distinto tama\u00f1o. Las secuencias aleatorias incluidas en estos cebadores permiten a\u00f1adir a los oligonucle\u00f3tidos que van a dirigir la amplificaci\u00f3n del dna a cuantificar unas secuencias espec\u00edficas que permitan la amplificaci\u00f3n simult\u00e1nea del dna competidor. Adem\u00e1s se han desarrollado otras aplicaciones pr\u00e1cticas como la extracci\u00f3n de \u00e1cidos nucleicos a partir de geles de agarosa mediante el empleo de polietilen glicol para permitir una separaci\u00f3n de fases en la agarosa fund\u00edda o el uso de una matriz mixta de agarosa y acrilamida lineal para aumentar la resoluci\u00f3n de las electroforesis de peque\u00f1os fragmentos
