El interfer\u00f3n (ifn) tipo i es el recurso de defensa inespec\u00edfica m\u00e1s eficaz de que dispone la c\u00e9lula frente a infecciones virales. Evidencias indirectas han sugerido una falta de activaci\u00f3n del sistema del interfer\u00f3n por el virus de la hepatitis c, pero no existen en la literatura datos consistentes sobre los cambios ind\u00f3genos del ifn tipo i que puedan contribuir a explicar la persistencia viral.  determinamos los niveles transcripcionales del ifn-alfa y del ifn-beta por la t\u00e9cnica transcripci\u00f3n reversa-reacci\u00f3n en cadena de la polimerasa (rt-pcr) en c\u00e9lulas mononucleares de sangre perif\u00e9rica (cmsp) y tejido hep\u00e1tico de pacientes con hepatitis cr\u00f3nica c (hc-c) y controles sanos.
