El ion fe3+ es un potente activador, descartandose por analisis de cromatografia en hplc y estudios espectrofotometricos y enzimaticos, que el incremento detectado sea artefactual. Los estudios cromatograficos y de efectores, ion fe3+ e inhibidores especificos de pnp y fosfatasas, apoyan la implicacion secuencial de las actividades ferrofosfatasa(s) y pnp en la sintesis, dependiente de prpp, de estos nucleosidos.  esta via metabolica tambien existe en los eritrocitos con actividad hgprtasa normal (controlhprt+), detectandose in vivo cuando la enzima hgprtasa no es funcionante:  deficiencia parcial o total de la enzima.  las enzimas aprtasa(s) de un paciente con actividad parcial de la enzima hgprtasa (propositus) y de un controlhprt+, se han purificado 1500 y 730 veces, respectivamente, con un rendimiento del 50% en ambas proteinas. La vmax determinada en la enzima de propositus es, en todas las etapas de la purificacion, dos veces superior a la del controlhprt+, no observandose diferencias en las km para adenina y prpp. El amp es un inhibidor competitivo, con respecto al prpp, con una ki de 150  m en propositus y 220  m en el controlhprt+. Las graficas de arrhenius muestran diferencias en la estabilidad termica de las proteinas, con puntos de transicion en su actividad de 60 c en la aprtasa de propositus y 50 c en la del
