Mediante su interacci\u00f3n con  esta proteina regular importantes procesos en la vida de la c\u00e9lula, como son la homeostasis i\u00f3nica, el ciclo celular y la integridad de la pared celular.  el trabajo descrito en la tesis doctoral es la b\u00fasqueda de genes hom\u00f3logos a hal3 en la planta modelo. Arabidiopsis thaliana. Se han clonado dos genes de arabidopsis thaliana, athal3a y athal3b, con elevada homolog\u00eda de secuncia con hal3.  athal3a  y athal3b se expresan en todos los \u00f3rganos d ela planta. Athal3a presenta mayor expresi\u00f3n en flores, silicuas y semillas. Athal3b presenta un nivel basal de expresi\u00f3n menor, y su arn mensajero no se acumula en semillas. Ambos genes respodnen a la presencia de naci en el miedo incrementando su expresi\u00f3n, pero no a la hormona \u00e1cido absc\u00edsico.  athal3 se expresa en embriones y tejido vascular de planta adulta.  athal3 se complementa parcialmente la ausencia de hal3 en la elevadura saccharomyces cerevisiae, restaurando la tolerancia a sal de una cepa de levadura deficiente el hal3.  athal3a une una molecula de fmn por m\u00f3lecula de prote\u00edna, es por lo tanto una flavoprote\u00edna. La presencia de este cofactor posibilita una acitividad o regulaci\u00f3n redoz el enzima.  las plantas transg\u00e9nicas que sobrexpresan athal3a presentan un crecimiento m\u00e1s r\u00e1pido y tolerancia a naci in vitro.
