La comparacion de los resultados obtenidos (registros electroencefalograficos obtenidos mediante electrodos implantados en corteza cerebral; observacion del comportamiento ictal; y estudio histologico) en los animales a los que solo se les administro acido cainico y en los que ademas recibieron una dosis de fgf, evidencia un efecto neuroprotector frente al da\u00f1o excitotoxico, y una accion inhibidora y anticonvulsivante. Los datos obtenidos sugieren que el fgf, administrado por via sistemica, atraviesa la barrera hematoencefalica. Se postulan tres posibles mecanismos de accion del afgf: la liberacion de oxido nitrico, la activacion de canales de potasio dependientes del atp, y la neutralizacion del acumulo intracelular de
