Ante una limitaci\u00f3n en la disponibilidad de fe las plantas dicotiled\u00f3neas, estrategia i, inducen una reductasa f\u00e9rrica, dependiente de ph, situada en la membrana plasm\u00e1tica de las ra\u00edces. Una vez dentro de las c\u00e9lulas de la ra\u00edz el fe es transportado como fe(iii)- citrato (tiffin, 1970). Se ha propuesto la existencia de una reductasa f\u00e9rrica en la membrana plasm\u00e1tica de las hojas, con un comportamiento similar al de las ra\u00edces. La caracterizaci\u00f3n de su comportamiento en condiciones de deficiencia de fe se ha realizado con este trabajo. La actividad reductasa f\u00e9rrica (fc-r) de la membrana plasm\u00e1tica de hojas de remolacha present\u00f3 un ph \u00f3ptimo de 6,8 similar a los ya encontrados para otras especies. la constante km present\u00f3 relaciones -fe\/+fe de 1 para todos los quelatos utilizados (fe(iii)- malato, fe(iii)-citrato y fe(iii)-edta) y una relaci\u00f3n -fe\/+fe alrededor de 1,5 para la vmax. la afinidad del enzima fue mayor para el malato, se\u00f1alando un papel importante de \u00e9ste para la actividad fc-r. Adem\u00e1s, la actividad fc-r disminuy\u00f3 al aumentar la relaci\u00f3n fe:citrato (actividad m\u00e1xima relaci\u00f3n fe:citrato 1:5) mientras que para el malato aument\u00f3 con el incremento de la relaci\u00f3n (actividad m\u00e1xima a partir de fe:malato 1:25). Los datos cin\u00e9ticos y la misma variaci\u00f3n de la actividad fc-r en anaerobiosis para las preparaciones control y deficientes podr\u00edan indicar la presencia de un mismo enzima. Sin embargo, la composici\u00f3n polipept\u00eddica de la membrana plasm\u00e1tica de hojas deficientes (estudiada mediante electroforesis en dos dimensiones) mostr\u00f3 la aparici\u00f3n de polip\u00e9ptidos (mr 36,0-40,7 kda y pi 5,4-5,8) que podr\u00edan corresponder a polip\u00e9ptidos con actividad fc-r.  las puntas de ra\u00edz de plantas de remolacha deficientes en fe mostraron un contenido proteico 3 veces superior a los controles.
