En la fundamentacion teorica debe considerarse el contexto en el que situs la tesis (cambio del sistema educativo, renovacion de las paau, experiencia del profesorado, etc) y el marco teorico en el cual trabajamos. Para acercarnos a los conocimientos previos del alumnado, sobre todo a las ideas y a los procesos que ha de desarrollar para aprender ciencia, nos ha sido de gran utilidad revisar las investigaciones enmarcadas en la teoria piagetiana de las operaciones formales y en el enfoque de las concepciones alternativas de los sujetos sobre los fenomenos cientificos. En cuanto a las habilidades de aprendizaje que forman parte de los conocimientos previos nos hemos centrado en la exploracion de la relacion entre los procesos cognitivos y la comprension de textos. El primer paso de la investigacion empirica fue la formulacion de la hipotesis que queriamos comprobar: los conocimientos previos del alumnado pronostican el rendimiento academico en los estudios universitarios de fisioterapia. La variable independiente son los conocimientos precios de los estudiantes al ingresar en la universidad, evaluados a partir del instrumento de medida dise\u00f1ado en nuestra investigacion: la prueba. La variable dependiente es el rendimiento academico de los sujetos medido a partir de las calificaciones obtenidas al finalizar el primer curso academico universitario. La investigacion se situa en el paradigma empirico-analitico, en la modalidad de investigacion no experimental o expost-facto.
