Su principal objetivo ha sido la investigacion de la posible existencia de un precursor biosintetico de esta hormona similar a los descritos hasta ahora para otras hormonas polipeptidicas. El resultado del presente trabajo ha revelado la existencia de este precursor al que ha denominado el autor precalcitonina  su identificacion y caracterizacion se ha basado en los siguientes criterios experimentales: en experimentos de pulso y caza incubando las glandulas en un medio que contenia aminoacidos radioactivos  se observo que la radioactividad incorporada  despues de un pulso de 30 minutos  en el precursor  se transfiere a la calcitonina en sucesivos tiempos de caza. De estos experimentos se ha estimado la vida media del precursor entre 60 y 90 minutos. El precursor tiene una ligera actividad hipocalcemiante y se encuentra en peque\u00f1as cantidades en la glandula.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Datos acad\u00e9micos de la tesis doctoral
