La membrana basilar se visualiza como una fina viga elastica empotrada en un extremo y libre en el otro y que ademas esta elasticamente sujeta por sus lados a lo largo de toda su longitud. El estimulo externo se representa por una fuerza sinusoidal variable con el tiempo. La ecuacion matematicadel modelo se resuelve primero por el metodo de descomposicion en autovectores y despues suponiendo la viga en el estado estacionario como no homogenea con condiciones de contorno.
