Consta de cuatro apartados. En el primero se estudia el alma en los dialogos miticos de sera numinis vindicta. De genio socratis y de facie quae inorbe lunaes apparet. El segundo apartado se ocupa del alma en obras religiosas y morales  centrandose en el dialogo de defectu oraculorum y el tratado de virtude morali. En el tercero se analiza la relacion alma personal alma cosmica partiendo de la exegesis plutarquea del tineo platonico: de anima procreatione in timaeo y terminando con las platonicae quaestiones segunda y cuarta. La relacion alma cuerpo es objeto del apartado cuarto  donde se considera con preferencia esta relacion en las pasiones y en la experiencia onirica. La conclusion es que plutarco ha utilizado fuentes diversas.  primero platon y la academia  tambien aristoteles y el peripato  no siendo desdenable la influencia estoica en el aspecto etico.
