El trabajo consta de tres partes: 1- contexto historico 2- identificacion del investigador cientifico 3- productividad  que se desarrollan en siete capitulos:  revisando la historia; la sociedad espa\u00f1ola actual y los investigadores; edad y origen geografico y social; motivacion; ideolog\u00eda; prestigio y satisfaccion; y produccion escrita. El estudio se ci\u00f1e a los campos de la matematica  fisica  quimica  biolog\u00eda y farmacia  y se refiere tanto a los investigadores que trabajan en centros oficiales como a aquellos que lo hacen en la industria privada. Los datos proceden basicamente de dos fuentes: a) una encuesta a una muestra significativa (2.201 casos) de la poblacion espa\u00f1ola en general y b) una encuesta a una muestra significativa (seiscientos casos) de los investigadores cientificos trabajando en espa\u00f1a.
