Para ello se estudiaron un total de 100 pacientes con fibrilacion auricular cronica. El seguimiento fue de 1 a\u00f1o en el grupo con ecocardiografia transtoracica y de 30 dias en el grupo con ecocardiografia transesofagica. Nuestros resultados indican que la funcion mecanica de la auricula y de la orejuela izquierda no se recupera de forma inmediata tras la cardioversion electrica realizada con exito en la fibrilacion auricular, sino que se encuentra inicialmente deprimida, para posteriormente ir aumentando hasta su completa normalizacion (30 dias). En nuestro estudio solo hemos encontrado como factor predictivo de recidiva, la duracion de la fibrilacion auricular, sin embargo ni el tama\u00f1o auricular izquierdo, ni la enfermedad mitral, ni ninguna de las otras variables clinicas ni electrocardiograficas, ni ecocardiograficas (incluidas las mediciones doppler), se han mostrado como factores predictivos de recurrencia. Considerando los hallazgos de esta tesis y teniendo en cuenta que la mayor parte de las recidivas se producen en el primer mes, creemos que la terapia anticoagulante se debe realizar de forma profilactica antes de la cardioversion electrica, y mantener al menos durante los primeros 30 dias postcardioversion.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Datos acad\u00e9micos de la tesis doctoral
