El corpus estudiado difiere considerablemente del hasta ahora conocido  segun aconsejan solidas razones de critica textual. Los poemas neoyorquinos son considerados una muestra altisima de poesia simbolica  de una rara profundidad  que da expresion a los grandes problemas del hombre. Formalmente resulta inaceptable la calificacion de surrealista que se ha dado a esta poesia  presidida por una admirable logica poetica   su lenguaje es absolutamente coherente segun demuestra la importancia de la metafora  cuya raiz barroca es indiscutible.
