El hecho de que Madrid estuviese asentada  en gran parte en un suelo de este tipo y la importancia economica que tienen de detectar y controlar este tipo de fenomenos  hacia necesario la realizacion de un estudio a fondo de las  arenas de mija .\/\/ Hasta fechas muy recientes el estudio del colapso se simplificaba colocando el suelo en la situacion mas desfavorable  es decir  cargandolo y luego inundandolo.  la necesidad  por imperativos economicos  de utilizar en ingenieria calculos cada dia mas estrictos  que se ajusten lo maximo posible a la realidad  hizo aconsejable que se utilizasen  en este caso  un amplio abanico de posibilidades que intentase cubrir  de la mejor forma las diferentes trayectorias de tensiones mas usuales que se pueden presentar en la practica\/\/.
