El bicarbonato ejerce su efecto activador unicamente sobre el centro de baja afinidad por el sustrato mientras que el citrato actua como un inhibidor no competitivo en los dos centros cataliticos del enzima. El atp libre actua a bajas concentraciones como un activador  mientras que a concentraciones mas elevadas actua como un inhibidor. Por otra parte  el atp libre y el citrato compiten por un mismo centro regulador del enzima y los efectos ejercidos por el citrato o el atp libre son aditivos respecto del efecto activador producido
