Agentes desacoplantes de la fosforilacion fotosintetica como el arseniato y la metilamina inhiben tambien dicha incorporacion tanto el amoniaco como la metilamina  a las concentraciones que inhiben la incorporacion de nitrato  no parecen afectar a la actividad nitrato reductasa.  por otra parte se describe un efecto estimulador especifico de la luz azul en la incorporacion de nitrato dependiente de glucosa por celulas de chlorella fusca. En dicha estimulacion la luz opera independientemente del aparato fotosintetico.
