Independientemente del modo de inactivacion  la incubacion en presencia de ditioeritritol hace que se recupere casi en su totalidad la actividad enzimatica. Asimismo  el tratamiento con el sistema nad(p)m-bencil viologeno reductasa  en condiciones aerobicas  origina una drastica inactivacion del enzima que igualmente se revierte con la incubacion con ditioeritritol. La inactivacion reversible de la nitrato reductasa determina la existencia de dos formas distintas del enzima interconvertibles. Una especie reducida y activa y otra especie oxidada e inactiva.
