Se demostro por fraccionamiento en gradiente de densidad de cscl y por electroforesis en geles de poliacrilamida que este aumento de la actividad catalasica especifica obedece a una induccion del enzima catalasa. El inductor no es el peroxido de hidrogeno ya que este aumento de actividad se demostro en anacrobiosis. El estudio del mecanismo de las oxidaciones terminales de dicha bacteria permitieron atribuir a la catalasa la funcion de consumir el exceso de peroxido de hidrogeno producido por la superoxido
