El instrumento es en esencia una pila electrolitica de electrocito ceramico con un electrodo de referencia fijo y el otro compuesto por el sodio y su oxido. Se ensayaron como electrodos de referencia el aire y mezclas de metal-oxido metalico:  cobre  esta\u00f1o. Comportandose todas las sondas cuatitativamente de forma correcta.
