El material perteneciente al genero pachypleurosaurus procedente del monte san giorgio debe ser escindido en dos formas una de ellas atribuible a p.  edwardsi  siendo la otra una nueva especie. El genero simosaurus puede ser diferenciado perfectamente de los nothosauridae en base al esqueleto postcraneal. El genero pistosaurus no es un plesiosaurio; proponemos su inclusion dentro de un suborden intermedio entre nothosauria y plesiosauria: el suborden pistosauria. El analisis filogenetico y sistematico ha demostrado la necesidad de proponer un cuarto taxon subordinal entre los sauropterigios: los pachypleurosauria. Los notosaurios se dividirian basicamente en formas ictiofagas y malacofagas  utilizando la locomocion de tipo paraxial (vuelo subacuatico) como modelo de progresion en el
