Se aplico este nuevo metodo a 107 capas de bacterias anaerobias  84 de las mismas pertenecientes a distintas colecciones internacionales estando consideradas la mayoria de ellas como cepas-patron. Las 23 cepas restantes pertenecen al genero bifidobacterium en el cual la diferenciacion entre las diferentes especies no queda suficientemente establecida por los esquemas bioquimicos  estableciendo con la deteccion de acido formico una clave diagnostica rapida que nos permite diferenciar entre si las dos especies  b.  adolescentis y b.
