La gran novela hispana decimononica constituye en efecto  un excelente mirador para observar la dinamica religion ochocentista y contractarla con la dibujada por las fuentes documentales de igual epoca. La imagen ofrecida por la literatura del fenomeno en cuestion significa una aportacion sustancial aunque no suficiente y exclusiva para llegar a la comprension totalizadora de lo que la religion y el estamento eclesiastico significaron en la evolucion social de la segunda mitad del siglo xix  cuyo analisis exije  repetimos  la apelacion a otros tipos de documentos. Tal vez la conclusion mas sobresaliente del estudio en cuestion descanse en la idea de que la gran novela espa\u00f1ola del xix no es anticlerical  criticandose precisamente las actitudes
