Los tiempos de reaccion han sido variados  en el intervalo de segundos a horas. En los antecedentes bibliograficos se ha expuesto la aceptacion general de que los sesquioxidos de los elementos lantanidos mas pesados no se hidratan y (o) carbonatan en la masa  en contacto con la atmosfera afirmacion que se ha tomado casi como maxima. Los datos obtenidos han puesto de manifiesto que a presiones superiores a 8 torr de h2o ocurre hidratacion en la masa relativamente rapida hasta alcanzar un 8% de conversion en trihidroxido  referida a una capa superficial de las particulas. En presencia de co2  la velocidad de hidratacion disminuye sensiblemente. La evolucion a la atmosfera durante un periodo proximo a cuatro a\u00f1os  ha mostrado que las cantidades de h2o y co2 tomadas son crecientes e implican como se ha mostrado un proceso en la
